Contextualising RTO Training Resources and Assessment Tools
The implementation of a new model for regulating RTOs which is being introduced will have a large impact on the industry. A key component of this new model is the requirement that all RTOs provide training to their students.
This means that
there will be an increased demand for quality training resources, including
online learning content such as e-learning modules and unit standards. It also
means that there will be a need for good assessments to ensure that students
receive the best possible outcome from their studies.
RTO training resources and assessment tools
are often used by teachers, trainers and assessors to help them contextualise
their training materials.

their training materials.
RTO LearningResources can be used for a range of purposes
including:
·
reflecting on learning content,
·
explaining concepts and ideas
to students, or
·
to illustrate examples that may
be difficult to explain verbally.
·
design learning activities,
·
develop curriculum materials
and units of work, or
·
Assess student work against the
learning intentions of a unit.
To contextualise the RTO training resources,
we have to first look at what the purpose of the resource is. Is it a
certificate of competency for students? Is it a qualification for teachers?
There a number of
resources to help vocational education and training (VET) providers develop
their capacity to deliver training that is aligned with the award standards.
These resources include:
Award assessment tools – The VET Quality Framework supports the alignment of
qualifications and units of competency with the standards in the Vocational
Education and Training Assessment Framework. The VET Quality Framework provides
a suite of tools including assessment guidelines, sample assessments and
exemplars.
Award training packages – The Award Training Packages provide training materials to support
RTOs to meet the requirements for delivering an award course. They cover all
necessary topics such as assessment, curriculum design, teaching methods,
career development and workplace learning.
RTO training guides – These guides provide information on how to assess candidates
against the Vocational Education and Training Assessment Framework standards
and how to develop learning experiences based on them. They also include best
practice advice on how to use e-assessment tools.
